Federal Universities are tertiary institutions that are funded and managed by the federal government.

We have three (3) levels of governments in Nigeria (Federal, State and Local), and these universities fall under the coffers of the Federal govt and as such, the state do not have much influence or say about what may or may not in such school.

So, the appointments of the Vice chancellor and other internal school affairs is strictly by the Federal government and not State.

These schools are spread across the 36 State in Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), there are some benefits of applying to theses schools when compared to Private & State owned Universities, more details on this shortly.
