This means, not all students will write same subjects, that is, Subjects Science students will sit for is totally different from that for Art and Social Student.
The subjects are different, but the number of subjects are the Same, and this leads to the question I will be providing you answer to in today’s Episode of my “JAMB Doctor series“.
In 2022, there was a misinformation circulating online suggesting that the number of subjects students would be expected to sit for in JAMB has been increased by two (2).
This news came as a result of the announcement by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof Is- haq Oloyede, that there will be an addition of two new subjects to the “list” of subjects.
These two subjects were:
- Computer Science
- Physical and health education
The news came in this fashion…
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has added physical and health education and computer studies into next year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The board said the two subjects would help to widen opportunities for candidates so that they can access tertiary education.
Registrar of JAMB, Prof Is- haq Oloyede said this during an interview with reporters after receiving an award of excellence from the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN).
Some persons mistook this to mean addition of two new subjects student will be asked to sit for, thereby increasing the total number of subjects by two (2) making it Six (6).
This news did not in any way imply that the total number of subjects students will sit for now includes a compulsory physical and health education and computer studies.

The only compulsory subject all student must write in JAMB irrespective of your area of interest (Science, Art or social science) is Use of English.
Enough with the chit chat, lets get back to the main question…
How Many Subjects Are Written In JAMB
The Total number of subjects students will sit for in 2023 JAMB Is Four (4).
These subjects include a Compulsory Use of English, and any other three (3) subjects that is related to your field of interest.
I keep using the word field of interest because not all courses require same subject combination, let us take for example Pharmacy and Engineering, although these two courses are science course, students who wish to study any of these two will not be registering exactly same course in JAMB.
JAMB Subject combination for Pharmacy are: Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. But that for Engineering is different.
JAMB Subject combination for Engineering: Use of English, Physics, chemistry and Mathematics.
But the number of courses offered remains consistent, which is Four (4).
