JAMB’s Clarification On NABTEB A’ level

Nabteb a level Acceptable by Universities for Admission

In order to clarify JAMB Stands on NABTEB A’ level result and how it affects students admission, JAMB added this notice to her weekly bulletin…

The Natonal Technical Certificate(NTC), the Advanced National Technical Certificate(ANTC), the National Business Certificate (NBC), the Advanced National Business Certificate (ANBC) and the Modular Trade Certificate( MTC) issued by the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) are valid, recognised and acceptable for the purpose of admission by JAMB as prescribed by law.

However, what is not recognised, approved or known to law is the NABTEB Advanced General Certificate in Education (NAGCE).

What Is NABTEB?

NABTEB Stands for the acronym  National Business and Technical Examinations Board, this program is carved out for the certification of trade and crafts in students.

Later on, JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board) certified NABTEB as one of the prerequisites for gaining admission into Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics and College of Education. The programme have seen an increased in registration as a result of this development.

Nabteb has two programmes which most students who want to gain admission into university and polytechnic are conversant with, these programmes include…

  • NABTEB O’level
  • NABTEB A’level

Now, moving on to what each exams is all about (NABTEB O’level and NABTEB A’level)

NABTEB O’level

The O (in the O’level) stands for Ordinary, hence you can also refer to this as NABTEB Ordinary level exam.

This is the conventional result student use to combine with their JAMB result to gain admission into 100 level in universities. O’level NABTEB has the same authority like its sister certificate, WAEC, NECO and their GCE variants.

The O’level NABTEB is most popular among student leaving secondary school who need to sit for another O’level examination in order to have their O’Level courses complete.

Registration cost for NABTEB O’ Level ranges between NGN13,000 to NGN35,000 depending on your location and registration centres.

NABTEB A’level

The A’ Level NABTEB stands for Advanced Level NABTEB, the primary purpose of this exam is to cater for student who wish to gain admission into the University of their choice but have not been able to do so through JAMB.

Therefore, you can confidently say that NABTEB A Level serves as an alternative route to JAMB.

NABTEB A’level programmes has approve study centres, when you attend lectures in any of the approved NABTEB A’ Level Study centre and pass, you will be able to combine the result with the Direct Entry form and use it to gain admission into 200 level.

If you have heard of programs like JUPEB (Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board) and IJMB (The Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination), you can liken NABTEB A’ level with these programs.

The best thing is, you can study almost all the courses in any Nigerian university of your choice with this programme, interesting right?

Differences Between NABTEB A’level & O’level

From the above explanation you will understand that while the O’level NABTEB exam can be used to gain admission into 100 level of any university of your choice, the Advance level exam grants you 200 level admission when combined with your Direct Entry form.

Also, the NABTEB O’ level can also be synonymous to normal olevel result (the likes of WAEC, NECO and GCE Certificate) while the NABTEB A’level is referred to as an Advanced Level Programme.

You should note that, before you can have your Advance Level NABTEB, you must have first gotten your O’level

Lets i forget,  ANBC (Advance National Business Certificate) & ANTC (Advance National Technical Certificate certificates) are equivalent to OND, NCE, and so on.

Depending on the option you choose between technical and business, you must take part of the specialized modules designed for NABTEB A-Level below.

  • Business trades
  • General education
  • Engineering and construction trades

Just like IJMB programme is being moderated and supervised by Ahmadu Bello, Zaria is the same to UNIBEN.
