One trend literally all students who either are in or aspiring to further in any tertiary Institution in Nigeria are familiar with is Strike, In fact, Strike is not just prevalent in Universities, Polytechnics also go on strike.

The continuous strikes embarked on by Universities results in prolonged student duration of study

So you find a student who was admitted to study a four years course like Pure and applied Chemistry, finally spending Six (6) to Seven (7) years.

This prolong stay is not of any joy to the student.

For this reason, most student would love to study in Schools where they would enjoy uninterrupted study duration (that is, you spend five (5) years studying a five years course and not Six (6)), and this is only achievable if your School is not under the body that enforces this Strike, this body is popularly known as ASUU.

Unfortunately, Universities that are under ASUU are far more than those not under ASUU this is of course exempting private Universities.

In this article I will be providing you with a complete list of Universities that are Under ASUU, this is to guide you in making your decision as to what school you would want to further your study in.

Also, each time there is a rumor of strike lurking around, a lot of student may not be so sure whether their school will participate in the strike or not.

Well, if you see the name of your University in this list of Universities that are under ASUU then know for a fact that your school will definitely be embarking on the strike action.

But before I grace you with this list, lets first understand what ASUU is all about and what they fight for.

What Is ASUU?

ASUU is an acronym for Academic Staff Union of Universities, and as the name implies it is a body for all academic staff in the University, so you will observe that each University have more like a local Union of Academic Staff (We call this, University’s Chapter of ASUU), and this is when you here them say UNIBEN ASUU, or UI ASUU, that is University of Benin Academic Staff Union or University of Ibadan Academic Staff Union.

All these various chapters can go on strike independently, but they all come together to form the National Body – ASUU, which is currently headed by their Chairman ‘Professor Osodeke’. This body was founded in the year 1978.

As a Union, they fight for their welfare, such as payment of salaries and allowances to Staff, and the only way they achieve this is by embarking on Strikes.
