Admission into any school in Nigeria is like a tug of war, yearly, you have over one million students applying to the different Federal, State and Private Universities around the country
…and out of this number only about 500,000 thousands (arguably) students will be given admission, what then happen to the remaining students? they will be expected to stay at home and prepare for the next JAMB. Quite an Irony right?
To ensure transparency in admission, most schools (UNIBEN also) release how students are graded for admission, and this this through what we call an aggregate system.
Students who do not meet up with the aggregate score (Departmental cut off mark) and JAMB cut off mark for the course they want to study will not be given admission.

Is UNIBEN Cut Off Mark Out?
Yes, JAMB cut off mark to be eligible to participate in the University of Benin Post UTME Exam is out officially alongside the departmental cut off mark for the various courses offered.
This means that, the JAMB and departmental cut off mark I will provide you here is that which for this year.
What Is UNIBEN Cut Off Mark?
UNIBEN Cut off mark is 200 for JAMB irrespective of the course you applied for.
Therefore, any student who sat for the JAMB and scored above 200 can proceed with the next stage of admission processing.
But if for any reason, the student was unable to make up to 200, even if the JAMB score is 199, that student will not be able to even apply for UNIBEN Post UTME.
Is JAMB cut off mark for UNIBEN the same for all courses?
Yes, UNIBEN’s JAMB cut off mark is the same for all courses, whether Pharmacy, Botany, Law, Medicine and Surgery, just to name but a few.
I know you may have seen some miss-information elsewhere, where JAMB cut off mark highlighted for the different courses in UNIBEN were different, something like, JAMB cut off mark for Pharmacy is 215, cut off mark for anatomy is 200, or the Cut off mark for law is 220.
This information is not correct, although UNIBEN once used different cut off mark for all courses offered in the school, but this was far back in 2016, when admission of student was not through Post UTME, so UNIBEN instead used Student’s JAMB score for screening student out.
But this was only used for that year (2016/2017), and is no longer in use.
So, be rest assured that, provided you cross the 200 mark, you are eligible to participate in UNIBEN Post UTME exam, but this will not guarantee you admission.
Aside UNIBEN’s JAMB Cut off mark, there is the departmental cut off mark that is gotten from both your JAMB and Post UTME score, what we call your aggregate score.
UNIBEN Departmental Cut Off Mark For All Courses
This departmental cut off mark is based on the previous year as that for 2023 is not official out yet
Students who after calculating their aggregate, scores above this cut off mark is rest assured of being admitted on merit bases (what we call the merit list).
UNIBEN cut off mark for the different faculties is not the same, the more competitive a course is the higher the cut off mark for admission

Good day Sir, I appreciate your article is very explicit. But I will need your advice on these issue. My daughter applied to study medicine and surgery in UNIBEN and she is 16 year old. Her aggregate score is 55.25. Please kindly advise or suggest what relevant course can she study in the college of medicine that will enable her make a transfer to study medicine in the future. Please note that as at now, UNIBEN do not accept student’s transfer to Medicine and Surgery, instead she can consider transferring to courses like; Pharmacy, Med Lab, Nursing and other related courses.
As for the relevant course she can study in the college of medicine with an aggregate score of 55.25, there are less competitive courses like Medical Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology that she can be admitted to.
Also, transfer to any of the courses aforementioned (Pharmacy, Med Lab, Nursing) is not restricted to student studying courses in Basic medical science, students in studying other science courses like Botany, AEB, MCB, Agric etc can also apply for transfer.

Thanks for your patience and elaborate response. I discussed with my daughter on the choice of courses you enlisted from college of medicine and she prefer medical biochemistry. But with an aggregate of 55.25 will UNIBEN offer her the course? Or will she need to apply for change of course? Because her kofa is still showing submitted.
Since she sat for the Post UTME already applying for change of course won’t have any effect now, she will have to wait to be admitted first.
The only problem with this is that, she don’t get to decide what course she will be admitted to if admitted, but since she had an aggregate over 50, she will most likely be admitted to any less competitive course.
The good news is, regardless of the course she is admitted to, she can always apply for transfer to any of the Science/Health courses that have same JAMB and O’level subject requirements with Medicine.
Please kindly resolve, the jamb portal is still showing not admitted. When will UNIBEN roll out admission.
This can span for over a month, as the admission list are released in batches, you will have to keep checking your JAMB CAPS.

52 as an aggregate is quite low for Business administration in UNIBEN

As at now you cannot apply for change of course to Anatomy since you already sat for Post UTME for Medicine, but since your aggregate was above 50, hopefully you get admitted to a less competitive course, once admitted you can transfer to other Faculties like Pharmacy, Med lab or apply for relocation to medicine, but none of these is as easy as it sounds.

Hi, besides the aggregate score which is jamb score/8+ post UTME/2. I didn’t see any further calculation on WAEC point. Whereas, in some articles I read I was made to understand that applicant’s could pull some point with good grade in his or her WAEC.
Schools like UNIZIK uses O’level grade to calculate aggregate, but UNIBEN do not.

239 is too low for Nursing and Optometry, you may likely be offered another course.
But if you do better in the Post UTME, then you may have a better chance.

If someone gets 67.5 as aggregate cut of mark and the aggregate cut ofark for computer engineering is 67
And the person is not in the merit list what could be the cause of this
Hey Evan, do note that merit list only constitute about 50% of the admission list.
This means, not all student that scores above the departmental cut off mark will be admitted, but for a course like computer engineering, you should be fine.
Do well to check for your name when other batches are released.

Hey Famous, Physiotherapy is quite competitive in UNIBEN and as such you require a higher aggregate score to be admitted via merit list.
Since you score above average, you could be admitted but not necessarily to Physiotherapy
